The Message to the Church

Feb 14, 2021    Brad Haden

We have done our best to set aside anything that might hinder our reading of the Revelation and we aim know it as God means for it to be known. We must acknowledge our fallibility and proceed with humility and an eagerness to understand His Word, and in all, simply trust that God will meet us in our pursuit of Him.

Revelation starts by establishing why it was written – to provide the revelation of Christ to the church so they could see what “must soon take place.” John is given a vision from Jesus and is told to write it down and deliver it to the seven churches – Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea – and we see, in the two chapters that follow, a message specifically given to each church that proceeds the vision. Our study begins with these messages; to understand what they would have meant to the original recipients, and from this, attempt to glean what it means for the church today.
