Abide In Me

There are myriad books that promise to reveal the path to true fulfillment in this life, but there is only one that actually has the answer – God’s Holy Word, as it is contained within the 66 volumes of Scripture, is our only reliable source of truth and wisdom. We have devoted ourselves to an in-depth study of Scripture over the past several weeks, looking primarily at the role of works in the life of a believer. Much of our study has centered on the many ways in which we get it wrong, but this week, we hope to move from our fallen, man-centered view to that of a God-centered view. Our aim is to understand how to approach our daily walk with Christ and know – in a positive sense – what it actually is that He has called us to do.

When we return to the beginning of the story, we see that we were created for the purpose of fellowship with God and one another. The story, however, is interrupted by sin – by man choosing his own way and thus breaking fellowship with both God and each other. As we progress through redemptive history, we see how far our sin has carried us away from our Creator, but it isn’t until the Son of God comes in the flesh that we begin to understand the remedy for our helpless state. Christ came to pay the price none of us could ever pay, that our relationship with God might be restored, and that once more, we could simply abide in Him.
